High Expecations, High Reward

High Expecations, High Reward

Johnny Meatballs DeCarlo (May 2, 2013)

Going for the Gold

Tools

I’ve received a ton of e-mails and facebook messages regarding my most recent blog post, “Body of Work: Exploring the Importance of Internet Status & Intangibles” where I discussed the social media tools I use for my company as well as dug deep into business facts and figures and entrepreneurship definitions. A lot of the feedback was very positive and supportive, and I got praise for my research and encouragement for my persistence.

But I also received some letters stating that I “rambled” on for too long and that I was contradictory in a lot of instances, and unclear in my overall message. So allow me to once and for all, state exactly what my point was for that blog and clear up any gray areas that may still exist about me and my visions.

First off, I am not broke. However, I am not rich. I am just like the majority of this country, in the middle, working hard trying to achieve the American dream. I have no intention of closing my business anytime soon. I know I may have spoken like this is a “make or break” summer for me, but just like the New York Yankees, despite adversity, I expect to be playing deep into October. All I was trying to say was that I have high expectations and am hoping for high rewards, which I feel I am finally in a better position to grab because I no longer have any restrictions.

Secondly, yes I agree I may have gone on for a little too long in my analysis, but understand, I was trying to recap four and a half years in one blog. With that came a lot of emotion.

Thirdly, my main marketing tool is social networking sites as opposed to regular websites. Facebook is my website. So is twitter and youtube. There’s really nothing more to it than that. I prefer being constantly “interactive,” and I wear my heart on my sleeve a lot of the time, but I always try to maintain professionalism on these pages as a public figure.

And fourth, my overall purpose was simply to explain a few key points which are: I am not just someone who cooks a food and sells it. All the other things I discussed (my “Johnny Meatballs Tree”) are equally important to me as the meatballs themselves. I want to ultimately have a restaurant but if I was offered to act in or host a new TV show tomorrow, I’d do it. If I was offered a paying job as a newspaper or magazine columnist, I’d do it. If a record producer came to me and wanted to do an album with me of Italian parody music like my Meatball Song, I’d do it. If a publisher came to me and wanted me to write another book—on any topic—I’d do it. If a businessman came to me with a completely different opportunity, whether it be a food product or non-food product they wanted to develop and bring to market with me, I’d do it. So I’m always putting myself into situations and positions where I can discuss and showcase all of my tree branches for the potential of growing them.

Of course I want my meatballs themselves to be on every dinner plate in the country and world. But I am also realistic in that if there are other avenues that may present themselves, I am open to them. That’s why I keep all these other tree branches going. Not in hopes that they’d overshadow the actual meatballs—because at this juncture of the game they are truly the best that they’ve ever been—but because in addition to being a cook/caterer/food vendor, I will repeat, I’m a writer/entertainer.

My rationale is you never know who is gonna see you and wanna make an offer, be it for a solo venture or a collaboration. I don’t think all the projects I’ve done with famous and semi-famous folks in the food biz and show biz were all from luck. It was from continually staying “relevant” and being out there in all my various forms.

I vowed to keep this blog short, so that’s what I’m doing. The meatballs are still the main component in all of this and always will be the foundation. So I plan to be seeing a lot of you all this summer…thousands and thousands of you. On the streets, and online.
