Question on Cugine. Same as a Guido? or not
Hi,
I grew up in Bay Ridge and my wife is from Connecticut. I was trying to explain what a cugine was and was having trouble distinguishing it from a guido.
To me a cugine is a particular type. So every paisan is not necessarily a cugine.
Also what's your take on the original meaning of cugine? My take is that is it's an Italian version of "hick," like a cousin from the country whose not too sophisticated. Someone who thinks he slick, but doesn't understand how he's coming off.
Also to me guido is what non-italians would call a cugine, while Italian-Americans would use cugine
