London Applauds Italian Fashions

Judith Harris

For well over half a century Italian fashions have loomed large on the international stage, which is how I happened to be seated one evening in 1974 directly behind Gina Lollobrigida and Audrey Hepburn at Valentino's swanky atelier in Rome. London will honor the halcyon Italian fashion years with the first ever such exhibition to go on view at the Victoria & Albert Museum April 5 through July 2014, called "The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014."

“At the End of a Dull Day” by Massimo Carlotto … WOW! Talk about a ‘Page-Turner’ … This ‘Bad-Boy’ is as Good as it Gets!

Tom Verso

A crime story ‘junkie’ from the profound “Crime and Punishment” to so bad I won’t mention for fear of libel. Accordingly, I speak from experience about the relative virtues of various crime novels; and Massimo Carlotto’s “At the End of a Dull Day” is really really really excellent. Although, it doesn’t achieve the literary quality of say John Domini’s “A Tomb on the Periphery”; lacking the ‘moral ambiguity’ and ‘sense of destiny’, which defines that great work.

Bill de Blasio: New York mayor, citizen of Italy’s Sant’ Agata de’ Goti

Small and picturesque, Sant’ Agata de’ Goti is a world away from the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple, but it has good reason to feel proud following the outcome of New York’s mayoral race. Bill de Blasio’s maternal grandfather came from the Italian town 35 kilometres northeast of Naples almost a century ago, and the next mayor of the most populous city in the United States still has cousins there.
