Together For Legality

On the occasion of the 2009 Columbus Celebrations, a delegation from ANFE Sicilia came to New York to pay its personal homage to Joseph Petrosino, the Italian-American policeman gunned down in Palermo in 1909. The series of events organized during their visit  focused on the theme of legality and the struggle to defeat Mafia on a local, national, and international level. ANFE partecipated to both the Brooklyn and the Manhattan Columbus Day Parade, and organized two concerts with Sicilian artists Roy Paci & Aretuska and the "Sun". With the delegation, also the National Anti-Mafia prosecutor Pietro Grasso who presented his book "Per non Morire di Mafia" at the Italian Cultural Institute of New York. Don Luigi Ciotti, president and founder of "Libera", met the students of La Scuola d'Italia Guglielmo Marconi and talked with them about his commitment against the Mafia and its multi-level control over territories and the civil society. The final conference "Joe Petrosino: The New Sicily 100 Years After His Death” was also enriched by the presence of the head of the NYPD George Grasso
