Description of Myself

Bea Spadacini has worked for almost twenty years as a writer and a communications consultant for different humanitarian agencies, including Amnesty International, the International Youth Foundation, the World Bank and Norwegian Church Aid. As a professional writer she has published extensively on human rights, gender, poverty, HIV/AIDS, conflict and other critical development issues. Since 2005 she has been responsible for Media and Communications in East and Central Africa for the aid agency CARE International.

As a freelance writer Spadacini has published in the Christian Science Monitor, Corriere della Sera, Gioia, Internazionale weekly, Health Link and Genitori si Diventa. In 2006 she was the portrait photographer for a book on Conversations with Kenyan Women Leaders. Spadacini is a regular contributor to Italian and American magazines. In 2007 she became the single mother of a Kenyan girl. Spadacini lives with her daughter Zawadi in Nairobi, Kenya and travels frequently to Rwanda to continue her research on the subject of reconciliation and healing. Spadacini has an MA degree in International Relations and Journalism from Boston University.
