Every fall for the past 25 years, N.I.C.E., New Italian Cinema Events, has brought an important selection of Italian films by first time and second time directors to New York. Directed by Viviana del Bianco N.I.C.E. has a mission: supporting and promoting contemporary Italian cinema on an international level. Through the years the festival has discovered many talents, including Oscar-winner Paolo Sorrentino. I-Italy spoke to Maya Breschi, US Executive Director.

Ammaniti & Bertolucci: Adapting Novels into Films

Me and You, Io e Te, is a film from 2012 by Bernardo Bertolucci, his last one for now. The film, based in the novel by the same title by Niccolò Ammaniti, was screened at Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimò as part of The New Literature from Europe Festival “an annual celebration of writing from across the European continent, featuring readings and discussions between leading and emerging literary voices from Europe.” Among this year’s representative there was Roman writer Niccolò Ammaniti.

Giovanni Rana is renewing its collaboration with the Food Bank for New York City. The company created by Italy’s “patriarch of pasta” will donate 100,000 meals to people in need throughout the city. In addition, until December 31, 2015, $1 will be donated for every dish prepared and sold by guest chefs of the “United Tastes of Pasta” initiative and at Rana’s restaurant in Chelsea.
