The Hands on L'Aquila Conference organized by the non-profit organization blogAway aims to help the economically neglected region of Abruzzo, still suffering the fallout from the 2009 earthquake. The conference will be hosted on September 28 and 29 in Santo Stefano di Sessanio, L'Aquila, and offers the unique opportunity for bloggers to learn and network while helping and getting to know the beauties and traditions of Abruzzo.

American soap opera 'Bold' is big hit in Italy

The cast and production team are in Puglia -- the heel of Italy's famous boot -- for a week of filming in hopes of boosting their show at home and nurturing their Italian fans.

NY-bound American passenger abandons 15 cats at Italian airport

ROME -- An American faces possible animal cruelty charges for abandoning 15 cats at an Italian airport Tuesday because they weren't allowed on board.The 44-year-old tried to check into a Lufthansa flight from Rome to New York with 19 animals, ANSA reported.

Italy: Witness Describes Sex Games With Former Prime Minister

At a party he hosted when he was prime minister,Silvio Berlusconi, asked young women to simulate oral sex with a Greek statue, a witness said Monday at a trial where he is accused of paying for sex with an underage prostitute. The witness, Chiara Danese, a 20-year-old beauty contest winner, had tears in her eyes as she told a Milan court that Mr. Berlusconi asked the women to play sex games with a nude statue of the ancient fertility god Priapus.

Government Funding to Save Pompeii Archaeological Site, and Tours of Italy

The Italian government recently came out with a long-term plan for the protection of Pompeii, after several important structures within the archaeological area suffered damage in 2010 and 2011. According to small group tours operator Olde Ipswich Tours, this is good news not only for history buffs but also for Italy tourism, which attracts over 2.5 million visitors on tours of Italy from the Pompeii archaeological site alone.
