For lovers of Roman antiquity, among the commemorations of the second millennium of the death of Caesar Augustus on August 19, 2014, is restoration of the fabulous villa owned by the family of his beloved wife, Livia. Elegantly restored with state-of-the-art technology, it now has a small, fascinating mini-museum.

On Saturday, Sept. 13, IAWA will welcome two very accomplished authors -- Marie Helene Bertino and Joanna Clapps Herman -- both of whom share a passion for teaching. Bertino is part of the new wave of writers teaching in workshop settings and within the framework of the innovative One Story concept while Herman has been teaching at universities; much of her work reflects her "italianita," which has been an inspiration for her.
IAWA readings begin with an open mic followed by features taking the stage.

Off Site Art - OSA: L’Aquila – A Rebirth with Art

Off Site Art recently presented at the town of L'Aquila with a "call for art," where Italian and international artists were invited to send their works. The scaffolding of the historic center of L'Aquila, destroyed by an earthquake back in 2009, comes to life with a beautiful selection of international artwork. The project is supported not only by the associations of l'Aquila, but also by a New York-based non-profit public art organization, Artbridge.

E poi persiste tanto artigianato come quello dei calzolai che lavorano il cuoio producendo sandali solidi e raffinati su misura in pochissimo tempo. Anch’essi espressione della costosissima ed italianissima cultura del bello, amata in tutto il mondo.
