IAWA's Premiere of Student Partners Night Features Three Jersey “Girls”

On 2nd Saturday, December 12, IAWA will premiere its first Student Partners Reading featuring recent graduates from New Jersey City University (NJCU): Cassandra Casella, Chloe DeFilippis and Angelica Roman. IAWA plans to make this an ongoing program to foster mentor relationships and encourage young writers to read out loud.

WHO: Professor Edvige Giunta from New Jersey City University (NJCU) agreed to be IAWA’s on-campus liaison in order to produce this reading presenting three recent graduates who studied memoir, literature and writing courses with her.

Cassandra Casella is an Italian American poet and memoirist from Hoboken, NJ. A 2015 NJCU graduate, she teaches 10th,11th, and 12th grades. Her dedication to Italian culture and Italian American literature started in her grandmother's kitchen. Her poems have been published in Paths and anthologized in Olive Girrrls: Italian North American Women and the Search for Identity
Chloe DeFilippis also graduated from NJCU this year. A former editorial assistant of Transformations: The Journal of Inclusive Scholarship and Pedagogy, she co-edited  the 2014-2015 issue of Paths, NJCU’s student journal of creative writing. Her fiction and flash nonfiction have been published in Paths,  Olive Grrrls, and Voices in Italian Americana.
Angelica Roman earned her B.A. in Creative Writing from NJCU this year where she was also coeditor of the university student writing journal Paths. She is currently Permissions Assistant at Farrar, Straus and Giroux where her curiosity for the behind-the-scenes world of books is fed daily.
