We’re so accustomed to flashy news articles about “stars” that it’s easy to forget that there’s a rich cultural dialogue going on “behind the scenes.”.
A new organization, the brainchild of New York artist, Richard Laurenzi, is gaining momentum as it brings together painters, sculptors, graphic artists, photographers, designers, installation artists – and even a crossover like me – a sculptor and writer!
IAVANET (Italian American Visual Artists Network) is about to be officially launched by the group of artists who have been meeting together over this year in NYC. The aim is to make more visible the work of Italian American visual artists, to collaborate with Italian American organizations on cultural and educational projects and to establish communication links between artists both in America and Italy – possibly even creating a live-work studio program for Italian American artists in Italy. Contact website is www.iavanet.org [4].
The group is savvy, energetic, inventive and draws from the experiential range of its members, many of whom have exhibited in Italy as well as America in museums, palazzi di cultura, and in the streets! Keep an eye out for more news of this exciting organization and feature blogs on Italian American artists and writers – in and out of the mainstream!
