Aileen Riotto Sirey, Founder and Chair of NOIAW, meets i-Italy to share her memories of her best friend Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman be a candidate for Vice-Presidency of the United States, as well as the only Italian-American to run for such a high office. A role model for Italian-American women, Ferraro died on March 26, 2011 after twelve years from being diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
San Rafael residents played baseball and picnicked at Albert Park for years, but by the early 1990s, the field donated to the city in 1937 by Jacob Albert had become run down. Transients and druggies called unkempt corners home. Albert Park no longer felt safe. Aiming to revive Jacob Albert's dream of a park that all residents could enjoy, the city of San Rafael formed the Albert Park Renovation Committee, a team of diverse community members dedicated to renovating the area. The Gruppo Lonatese, a local organization that celebrates San Rafael's rich Italian-American heritage, joined that team and provided significant funds and energy to the park's renovation.

The first career fair for Italian majors was just held at NYU's Wasserman Center for Career Development. The event was organized by Salvatore Peter Ambrosino, major in Italian Studies, with the collaboration of Casa Italiana's Director Stefano Albertini, of Claudio Bozzo of the Italy America Chamber of Commerce and of Trudy Steinfeld of the Wasserman Center.
The southern city, which has carried out a variety of projects to host the event, including the extension of a breakwater so the yachts can race off the beautiful city seafront with Mt Vesuvius in the background, has embraced the event with enthusiasm.
