Italy’s Vinci, Pennetta advance at U.S. Open to meet in quarter-finals

Roberta Vinci will face a fellow Italian in the U.S. Open quarter-finals for the second straight year. In a testament to the depth among Italy’s women’s tennis players, the 10th-seeded Vinci will also be taking on a countrywoman for the third straight round at this year’s tournament. She and longtime friend Flavia Pennetta both won Monday.

Italy Stays Home For Lunch Hour As Weak Economy And Strong Culture Collide

 Of all the statistics available on Italy and its varied economic problems, few are as eye-opening as the fact that at around 1 p.m on any given day, three quarters of the population will normally be sitting down to lunch in their own homes. According to data from statistics agency ISTAT, lunch is the most important meal of the day for 68 percent of Italians and 74.3 percent usually eat it at home, a figure which has grown as a long recession has hit spending on food and eating out.

Toasting to Tuscany with the Tuscan Association of New York

Italian newspaper, La Nazione, initiated the idea of celebrating with a Global Toast to help promote 2013 summer events in Tuscany, the region's beauty and culture. New York celebrated with the Tuscan Association's president Joan Migliori, Niccolò Del Buffa and Consul General Natalia Quintavalle at Per Lei.
