Il “No alla Mafia” ha attraversato il capoluogo siciliano. Partendo dal coinvolgimento delle scuole. Più di quaranta mila studenti accorsi nelle piazze, alcuni dei quali provenienti dall’Europa e dagli Stati Uniti. Presente anche la N.I.A.F. (National Italian American Foundation) che ha stipulato con la commissione Fulbright e la Fondazione Falcone un accordo per sei borse di studio da assegnare a studenti siciliani che desidereranno andare a studiare in America e a studenti americani che vorranno venire a studiare in Sicilia.
Il soldato Rocco che amava la zappa
Dai ricordi di famiglia, per commemorare i 100 anni dell'ingresso dell'Italia nella Grande Guerra. Mio zio, il soldato Rocco, amava la zappa. Gli hanno messo in braccio il fucile, è caduto 100 anni fa sotto il piombo nemico. Di mio zio Rocco non c’è una foto. Nella mia mente è tuttora impressa l’immagine di quel militare dallo sguardo fiero di calabrese che con onore indossa la divisa, nella cornice realizzata da mio padre, una corona di alloro, un’opera d’arte, fatta con abilità da un autentico artista nell’intaglio del legno.

Three Stolen Pompeii Frescoes Found in the US to be Returned
On May 26th, the special unit of the Carabinieri police devoted to the protection of cultural heritage recovered three frescoes stolen from Pompeii and smuggled out of Italy in 1957 along with other ancient artworks that had ended up in the United States through the illegal art market. Italian Culture Minister Dario Franceschini took the opportunity to address the grave issue of defending the world’s cultural heritage from increasing threats, whether it be in the form of illegal trafficking or of targeted destruction by terrorist groups like ISIS.
