IAWA-East Welcomes Louisa Calio and Carole Giangrande to 2nd Saturdays August 8 @ Sidewalk Cafe

On 2nd Saturday, August 8, 2015, the Italian American Writers Association’s (iawa) will feature new work: from Louisa Calio's first poetry collection and award-winning Canadian novelist, Carole Giangrande will read from a soon-to-be-published novella.

Louisa Calio’s poetry collection, Journey to the Heart Waters, was  published by Legas Press in 2014. Best known as the curator of the Poets and Writers Piazza for Hofstra’s Italian Experience for 12 years, she is also on the Advisory Board of Arba Sicula. In 2013 she won first prize from the City of Messina, Sicily,  4th international poetry competition for her poem “Bhari.” Her work has appeared in GRADIVA, The Journal of Italian Translation, Voices of Italian Americana, New Verse News, Studia Mystica, She is Everywhere, darkmother, Remembrances, and Sweet Lemons 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louisa_Calio

Carole Giangrande is a Toronto-based novelist and author of eight books, including the award-winning novella, A Gardener On The Moon, the novels An Ordinary Star and A Forest Burning, a short story collection, Missing Persons and the novella, Midsummer. Her new novella, Here Comes The Dreamer will be published in September, 2015.

            A former radio-journalist, she worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as co-host of the popular Radio Noon program. She's read her fiction at Toronto's Harbourfront Centre, at the Banff Centre for the Arts (as an Artist-in-Residence), and her 50-part literary podcast Words to Go has been downloaded over 20,000 times in 30 countries. The Italian American Writers Association (www.iawa.net) Literary Readings is the longest running literary series at the Cornelia St. Cafe.  Since 1991, IAWA has given voice to writers through its literary series every second Saturday of the month.  IAWA East is held even months at Sidewalk Café and IAWA West continues at Cornelia Street Café on odd months.
