New York, NY - The Italian American Writers Association (IAWA) presents writers Linda Baldanzi and Stephen Massimilla on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Cornelia Street Cafe from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Cornelia Street Café is located at 29 Cornelia Street in the West Village, NYC-10014; 212-989-9319; www.corneliastreetcafe.com. The featured writers take the stage after Open Mic readings of five minutes.

  Stephen Massimilla [4] is a poet, critic, professor, and painter. His latest book, The Plague Doctor in His Hull-Shaped Hat  [5](Texas A&M University [6] Press), [7] was selected in the Stephen F. Austin State University Press Prize contest. He has received the Bordighera [8] Prize for Forty Floors from Yesterday; the Grolier Prize for Later on Aiaia; a runner-up citation for the Salmon Run National Poetry Book Award for Almost a Second Thought, selected by X.J. Kennedy; a Van Rensselaer Award, selected by Kenneth Koch; an Academy of American Poets Prize; and multiple Pushcart Prize nominations. Massimilla has recent work in AGNI, American Literary Review, APR, Barrow Street, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, Epoch, The Greensboro Review, Provincetown Arts magazine, Quarterly West, The Southern Review, Tampa Review, and Verse Daily. His work has appeared in hundreds of other journals and anthologies. 

He is founding member of The Urban Range poetry collective [9]  and holds an M.F.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. He teaches literary modernism, among other subjects, at Columbia University and the New School. www.stephenmassimilla.com
 Linda Baldanzi [10]  [11]studied poetry at the New School in NYC and Sarah Lawrence College. Her work has been published in Barrow Street, Redivider,  Wisconsin Review, Cold Mountain Review, Euphony, and Saint Ann's Review. Her  poem, Arrogance of Stones appeared recently in the anthology "For The Crowns of your Heads,” a collection about Haiti with all proceeds donated to the libraries  damaged by the earthquake produced by Cave Canem [12]. Currently, she is working on a manuscript of her poems. She conducts two poetry workshops at the Fort Lee Public Library.  [13]A Mount Holyoke graduate, she has an MA in Psychology, and most recently earned an MFA in Poetry and Poetry in Translation from Drew University. In her previous life she was a clinical social worker.
