In 1942, the Museum of Modern Art exhibited a decorated shoeshine kit—thought to be lost—made by a Sicilian immigrant said to be named Joe Milone. In 2014, the piece of the self-taught artist surfaced as well as his true name and identity.
The new addition to one of the busiest stores in New York City, Macy’s Herald Square is proving to be a true star (or “stella” in Italian). Stella 34, a modern trattoria-style restaurant, is quickly becoming a destination not just for shoppers, including many Italians overwhelmed by the scale of the nine-floor department store, but also for many New York foodies in search of Italian treasures.

An exciting day for the city of New York: The Consulate General of Italy has organized – as a prelude to the annual Festa della Repubblica on June 2nd – a treasure hunt around the city. Uncovering precious Italian treasures all over the island of Manhattan. Great turn out and enthusiasm.

In collaboration with The John D. Calandra American Institute of Queens College (CUNY) and The Italian Cultural Institute of New York.

The winner of the first Mario Fratti Award for Emerging Italian Authors, a program of the In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY, is "Via Dei Capocci" by Carlotta Corradi. The play, a story of prostitution that jumps from present to past, will be staged as a reading on June 23 at 7:00 PM at Theater for the New City (155 First Ave.) as an event of the Festival.
