This is a Naples Bike Lane. My Neapolitan friend said the European Union gave funds to promote biking and the local authorities painted these so they didn't have to send the money back. In five days of walking, four or more hours a day, I didn't see one person riding a bicycle. There's a political lesson to be learned here but I don't know what it is.
Italian American politicians adhere to a corollary given by the 6th century BCE Chinese general Sun Tzu who wrote the Art of War. It was uttered by Michael Corleone in The Godfather Part II (1974): "My father taught me many things here — he taught me in this room. He taught me — keep your friends close but your enemies closer." My mother-in-law Rose Jordan-Nicoletti’s version of this Italian American proverb was “Don’t apologize! Your friends don’t need it and your enemies won’t believe it.”

Doctors Stage Nationwide Walkout to Safeguard Public Health Service
In a nationwide protest, 200,000 overworked doctors slammed their doors shut on Wednesday, Dec. 16, leaving an estimated 2 million patients without care, save for emergency cases. The strikers' slogan: "Save the national health service." In the words of a spokesman at a press conference in Rome Dec. 15, "No cut-backs in caring for our citizens."

Libera wasfounded by Don Ciotti, a priest from Turin, in 1995 and it uses land and assets seized from the Mafia to set up local food cooperatives, antidrug projects, and community centers. Libera was also fundamental in the passing oflaw 109 which allowsthe seizure of assets belonging the Mafia.
