New York Wine Expo 2012: A Toast to Italian Wine-Making

The New York Wine Expo 2012 brought to the Javits Center over 3,000 New Yorkers who love wine, free tastings and fun. The Italian presence at the event was significant: the Italian Pavilion by ITC, offering samples of specialty wines, oils and cheeses from Italy, was one of the most visited areas of the show.

An exciting and overwhelming concert with Angelique Kidjo at the United Nations. The event was sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations, in collaboration with UNICEF and UNFPA to raise awareness about the issue of female genital mutilation. The visit to New York City was intense for Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Elsa Fornero, who also oversees equal opportunity initiatives and supports the U.N. resolution against this practice.

Riunione straordinaria alle Nazioni Unite, ma per una sera a salire sullo scranno dell’Assemblea Generale è stata la musica  e non la politica. A guidare ospiti e diplomatici dei 193 Paesi membri dell’Onu è stata l’energia della cantante di origine beninese Angelique Kidjo. Vincitrice di un Grammy Award e Godwill Ambassador per l’Unicef, la Kidjo ha portato la sua musica al Palazzo di Vetro per far sentire la voce delle giovani di tutto il mondo vittime della mutilazione genitale femminile.
