Over the last few days, New York has had an interesting taste of the peculiarities of the Ascoli Piceno Province. A delegation of representatives from the territory, led by food historian and Piceno enthusiast Francine Segan, took over the city with their spontaneity and friendliness, with several glasses of fine wines and massive quantities of “olive ascolane.”
“Love and a great passion for the traditional cuisine of Abruzzo are the main ingredients of my dishes. Taste, quality, traditions and authenticity... in your life.” This is how chef Rosanna introduces herself. She is the spokesperson of a bunch of initiatives brought on by the cultural association “Abruzzo in tavola” (Abruzzi at the table) aiming to promote together its extraordinary cuisine and local food products. You will have the opportunity to meet Rosanna and get to know her homeland in several places scattered around New York in the upcoming month.
During a recent trip to Kansas City, I never expected to visit such an interesting city. In fact, the city offers treasures that, unfortunately, are not well known either to foreigners or even to most Americans. One of these is the Boulevard Brewery, a real precious brewing. A family run brewery, it was founded and still run by the owner, John McDonald, who has not succumbed to the lure of big companies and their offers to expand nationwide.
