Funds earmarked to give 17 cultural institutions new touch

Italy's Ministry of Culture (MiBAC) said this week that nearly one million euros have been earmarked to inject a touch of new life into 17 of the country's museums, galleries and archaeological sites. Despite budget cuts, the ministry says that 936,712 euros in funds will be used to update captions, create itineraries, boost marketing and communications.

Soccer: Italy treating Brazil friendly as World Cup test

 Florence, March 20 - There is no danger that Italy will take Thursday's friendly against Brazil in Geneva lightly, according to Andrea Pirlo.

Indeed, the midfielder said he and his teammates are treating the game as a major test ahead of next year's World Cup.

Italy have lost only one competitive match since coach Cesare Prandelli took over in 2010, the 4-0 defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2012.

Debt-laden Italy struggles to find stable govt

 ROME — Trying to break through weeks of political gridlock, Italy's president began sounding out parliamentary leaders Wednesday to see if they can form a new government or if another election must be called.

February's national election revealed deep political anger in Italy and left few options for creating a coalition government tough enough to enact the economic reforms Italy needs to get it out of a stubborn recession. Italy is the eurozone's third-largest economy and has a massive government debt of about 2 trillion euros ($2.6 trillion).
