The Unmaking of the Made Men of Sicily?

Judith Harris

The crackdown on Mafia shows Italy at its best. Southern Italian cities, though plagued by many serious problems, no longer seem to be suitable places for a good mobster to hang out. That, at least, is progress.

"Nine Good Teeth". Il regista Alex Halpern racconta sua nonna, la centenaria italo/americana Mary. Ne nasce una storia a più voci che smitizza utilizzando la realtà e che fa riflettere su alcuni luoghi comuni…

Marc Edward DiPaolo

Marc's Lenten Promise: Since I am overweight, and unwilling to give up bread and pasta, I find myself stuck. How do I lose weight and remain Italian? Step one: give up candy bars for Lent. Step two: start taking long walks across a suburban, strip-mall filled Staten Island Landscape. Step three: avoid the mentally ill people who are the only other ones who live in the suburbs and don't drive.

The screening of the film L’isola delle rose: La tragedia di un paradiso (Island of Roses: The Tragedy of a Paradise) written and directed by Rebecca Samonà was accompanied by a brief but intense interview by journalist Andrea Fiano with Stella Levi, a former resident of Rhodes who survived Auschwitz.

The Slow Food movement wishes "to counteract fast food and fast life."

The mission of the Slow Food movement hits home for me -- probably because its goals seem similar to the life that my grandparents led.
